Microsoft Corporation Windows 10: 5 Reason To Be Excited About It

Windows 8 was a disappointment. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) got it wrong and hopefully the software giant won’t make the same mistake twice. Windows 10 now has a lot of ground to make up. From what we’ve seen so far, it could do just that.

When the company announced the next version of Windows and it was to be called Windows 10, many wondered why Microsoft skipped the ‘Windows 9’ label. Many Microsoft watchers even thought that this might be another of Redmond’s failed experiments. Whatever the company’s reasoning, there are significant improvements to the Windows operating system. Here’s why Windows 10 has got us excited:

The Price Of Windows 10

Usually we might say “it’s great, but the price is a bit…” Not here. That’s because Microsoft is offering a free upgrade to Windows 10 for the first year after its release - if you’re already running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. OS X and Linux users will need to purchase a copy of Windows 10. They could purchase a copy of Windows 7 or 8.1 now and get the free upgrade in the summer this year. The company reported many users are still using older versions of Windows (even Windows XP) so this free upgrade will hopefully get a majority of users onto the same platform.

The Return Of The Start Button

One of the main Windows 8 letdowns was that its “iconic” Start button went missing. This gave users a big problem in picking their way through the operating system. What many might actually prefer is an upgraded version of the Windows 7 platform. Microsoft seems to be doing exactly that by bringing back the Start Windows Icon at the bottom left of the desktop screen.

An Operating System Made ForPCs
Windows 8 was designed for mobile devices and touchscreen devices; which alienated mouse users. Windows 10 is made purely for the desktop user, which instantly puts it above its predecessor.

Although Microsoft still doesn’t completely respect that the two are completely different platforms; with its Surface line-up of hybrid laptop / tablet devices, the company recognized its mistake. Windows 10 will offer users a PC mode and a Tablet mode, bearing its Surface tablet line up in mind. In another plus, you will be use designate multiple desktops. For example, a user can assign certain work related apps to one desktop interface, or save a desktop which features social and other personal apps.

The Digital Assistant:Cortana

If you have ever played Microsoft’s Halo game series, you would be excited about Cortana’s integration into Windows 10. Cortana is Microsoft’s personal assistant and rival to Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) Siri. It has already been a huge success in the Windows Phones so there’s no surprise that the company has integrated it into Windows 10. Cortana enables vocal interaction and like any other assistant it will be reminding you of important events like meetings, appointments or flight schedules.

Bye Bye Internet Explorer, Hello “Spartan”
Saving the best and probably biggest headline for last, the new browser codenamed “Spartan” is probably the most exciting component of Windows 10. Even though you could still probably download Google Chrome or Firefox with it, you probably won’t. Cortana is integrated into the browser enabling you to make voice related searches.

Imagine surfing the through the web one day, when you hit something you don’t really understand. Not to worry as you can highlight the phrase and “Ask Cortana”. Spartan promises to bring a superior user experience, far from anything current browsers have to offer.
