The head of Electronic Arts EA -0.59%’ mobile-games division is leaving the company after a 20-year stint, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Frank Gibeau managed EA’s portfolio of mobile franchises, including “The Simpsons: Tapped Out,” “Plants vs. Zombies,” and “The Sims,” in addition to overseeing the development of new mobile intellectual property. His last day was Monday.
Mobile gaming increasingly is a key part of EA’s strategy for continued growth. Earlier this month, EA said mobile revenue, which mainly comes from purchases made inside of apps, rose 22% to $150 million in its fiscal fourth quarter. Still, the company’s mobile games aren’t regularly among the top-grossing games in Apple Inc. and Google Inc.’s app stores.
“Mobile games continue to be a core focus for EA, and thanks to our incredibly talented mobile teams, our position has never been stronger,” EA Chief Executive Andrew Wilson said in a statement. He declined to provide insight into Gibeau’s next move or comment on a possible replacement. In the meantime, the company’s mobile division will report to Wilson.
