AMD: Windows 10 will launch in late July

CHIPMAKER AMD has, we assume accidentally, revealed that Windows 10 will be released at the end of July.

As noted by Tweaktown, AMD president and CEO Lisa Su revealed the launch timing for Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system during the company's second-quarter earnings call.

Answering a question on inventory plans, Su said: "With the Windows 10 launch at the end of July, we are watching sort of the impact of that on the back-to-school season, and expect that it might have a bit of a delay to the normal back-to-school season inventory build-up."

Of course, Su's remarks might not be accurate, and Microsoft has yet to comment either way on the slip up. In fact, Microsoft has yet to confirm a release date, beyond revealing that it will be available this summer.

Windows chief Terry Myerson said last month: "We continue to make great development progress and shared today that Windows 10 will be available this summer in 190 countries and 111 languages."

However, while many have cast doubt over talk of a July release date owing to the number of bugs and unpolished features still found in Windows 10, it's likely that AMD would have a pretty good idea as to when the operating system will make it to market.

Such a release date also ties in nicely with Microsoft's vague 'summer' release schedule, and would give Microsoft the opportunity to show off the latest Windows 10 devices at this year's Computex in June.

Microsoft's Build event is due to take place later this month, during which we are likely to hear final Windows 10 release date details.

This slip up comes days after Microsoft pulled the Windows 10 Technical Preview for low-end Lumia handsets, after some users complained that attempting to revert back to Windows Phone 8.1 rendered their device useless.
